Employee staffing, retention, and acquisition
You hear the same thing nation wide – education is poorly funded, teachers salaries aren’t attractive, and employees in supporting roles don’t make enough. As bad as the shortage is nationwide, Arizona holds the title of 50th in students per teacher, 48th in per pupil spending, 49th in teacher salary, and you guessed it, 50th in national education rankings. Coincidental? Definitely not. All of these data points showing our inability to pay teachers and staff a decent wage are a direct causation of poor performance in national education rankings. To do better for our students, we need to do better for our teachers and employees.
Increase in employee pay
Unfortunately, much of the problem stems from the state and federal legislature – it’s not something we can fix overnight. Craig believes that the ability to offer employees great benefits, an attractive wage, and an inviting workplace culture all play a direct role in the success of our students. He will continuously advocate for DVUSD to find ways to increase wages, improve benefits, and remain a top place to work. Craig is committed to providing our kids the best education available, and that requires the ability to retain and acquire the best employees available.
